Hello All,

this certainly looks a bit stupid since this is my first post here.  But I would suggest to change the design of the message board a bit, to make it easier on the eyes. My impression is that four aspects could be easily designed more user friendly.
- the textured background is not helpful when reading a lot, it stresses the eyes; plain might be better.
- the average message page is full of rectangular frames and the majority of them does not contribute to make the information better digestible.
- the box displaying informations about the poster  is unusually large  an causes most pages to bloat.  The average message is 3 lines long but then needs 25 lines because of the info in that box; this info is easily accessible in the member profile anyhow in case anybody is interested
- for me the purple color frames on the message board are not very inviting

One example of a board which is less stressing to my eyes is http://www.inkscapeforum.com

Glad you could join us. Around here no post is considered stupid. At least that has been my experience here. We all give what help we can and we all can accept criticism as long as it is of a constructive nature. You've offered in my opinion some valid points of criticism regarding the this forums page layout.  Myself, I can agree with one and somewhat on another.

Your first item I can agree with.  I'm not a web page designer. But, awhile back reading an article on web design it was stated there that the best background for a text based page (as far as easy on the eye reading) was to use a plain pastel colored background using lighter shades of green and black text.

In your second item, I feel this is a matter of personal perspective. I've personally not been distracted by the rectangular look. It seems to me to be broke up this way as a navigational aid.

I could agree with your third item if the number of posts to this forum daily were of a large number. My guess would be that the number of posts per day here average about 15 to 20. Admin may have stats that either prove me right or disprove me. But, my point is that if there were a large number of posts per day then page bloat might be an issue here.

In your fourth comment I would say the the dull purple we use is to me much less distracting than the brightly colored borders used in the inkscape forum, however the blue gradient background is rather nice, but not complimentary to the border (that's just my opinion).

All things can stand improvement and it is good you offer your thoughts for doing so.  On another matter it would be helpful if you could place the version or versions of PSP that you are using in your signature, so that in the future, if you pose a question we can be of better help to you.

Welcome to our Forum and Make it a Great Day!!!

You can visit the Member Center and change the appearance of how you view the pages. The layout will stay the same but the color choices change. You can also suggest (as you have) color combinations you would like to have available and Robert will do his best to acomedate you.

This is a 'canned' program and only allows so much variety. The structure does not get 'customized'.

Thanks  Pockets and Pete,

I could indeed change the theme in the Member Center to something a bit friendlier.

I checked also the E-BLah ( the bulletin board software used here)  website and they seem to have designed several more modern themes in the meantime, which are not curretnly available in member center; one nice example I have seen is at
(url deleted by adminstration)

My impression is indeed  "Less Is More" with respect to making a website user friendly.

Personally I LOVE the colors and the layout.
But then...I am partial to purple hehehe

But I really do like the clean design. For me, it works well.

Kelly, you can easily increase the font size on any web page by hitting Control + until it's the size you want.  If it's too large, use Control -.  This works on both Firefox and IE.

There are times we have to bend a little because the post isn't exactly what we would prefer but we can't have our way all the time. Old saying "we can't throw the baby out with the bathwater."
Perhaps we could discuss moving some messages along after a certain time limit? I think the one D is speaking of was posted in 07. Hmmmmm, a dead letter drop or archive.
