Hope this is the right place to ask this.

I'm interesting in learning how to create grids in images, and I'd like to be able to possible deform them with some degree of control.

The main thing is just to be able to add a grid (of my color choice) to an image or part of an image.  I'm sure there's an easy way, but I'm out of practice and I never was too smart anyway, so any direction would be greatly appreciated

Just to be a little clearer, I'm looking to create grids that utilize thin lines and which I can vary the amount of vertical and horizontal lines I include from a very "busy" looking grid that has a lot of squares to a very sparce looking gride with just a few squares in it.

Hope that makes some sense.

There is a script that was bundled with psp8/9 that creates a grid you can blur.
http://www.dejudicibus.it/psl/script_9001.html

Maybe someone can post it if you don't have it.

Hi,

I'm not too sure what you are after but, since nobody else has answered, here goes.

I don't think there is an easy way to apply a grid to a PSP image. There doesn't seem to be one in the preset shapes. There may be one available on the web. You could create your own and save it as a shape (export to shape) and then apply it to your image.

You say distortion but I think you mean expansion or contraction. There is the mesh deform tool that might do what you want if you want true bendy/twisty distortion.

What you might want to do is apply your newly-created grid to your image. Marge them into one layer and then merely change image size.

This any help?

Thanks Willey!  That's pretty much what I needed.  Thanks for your reply too, Potolemee.

After I posted I was trying to read up on the scripting stuff just because I know I'm missing out on something very important there.

Thanks again!

Having messed with the gridmaker scipt a few minutes now, it's definitely helpful, but I don't readily see how to manipulate the size of the lines drawn.  It also doesn't seem to take well to raster deformation.

I had it in my mind to create some of those green, grid "decorations" that you often see as a part of top page graphics to give it a sort of "technology/business" look, where the grid is basially a part of the "background" of the graphic.  I also wanted to be able to deform the grid so that I could give it a look of depth, as if you were looking inside a window and seeing the grid that was large near your eyes and got smaller "deeper" inside the graphic.

Anyway, thanks again and if anyone else has any ideas on how to accomplish my grid (if I didn't completely confuse everyone), it would be greatly appreciated.

You can make a one square grid with the pen tool and save it as a pattern to flood fill a larger image, then you could use the deform tool or the mesh warp on it.

You could try something like this also.

Thanks Nanson.

Can't really quite get what I want using that tiling effect, at least in version 9.  However, the other suggestion shows a lot of promise.

Also, I discovered that there are already several grid patterns in the patterns tab located in the materials window (color selection).

I also messed around with just creating a grid by hand using the pen tool earlier, and that seems to work well, at least for some situations.

Anyway, thanks again.  I think I finally have what I need.

I think what you are wanting is perspective tiling. MuRa Meister free filter collection has a perspective tiling which works pretty well.

Not sure if this plugin will help. You can select the color and width. For a grid just make horizontal and verticle lines on individual layers and merge the two layers.

Thanks Jim and Willy!

More plugins to play with.  I love plugins.  When I die, I hope I come back as a plugin.

Thanks again

I modified the Gridmaker Script to give me a new default of grid size of 90 x 90 and a border width of 2 pixels rather than 1. This is now just right for what I want. Incidentally I pick a dark (or light), dominant color from my base picture for the foreground color to make the grid blend nicely into the picture. I am getting great results.

JimL - can you point me to an active link for MuRa Meister's free filters? I want to try them. All my searches end up in dead links.

That's the link for the meister thing jim mentioned.  I got them there and installed them, but still playing around.

NM: Found the gridmaker script.  Played around with it yesterday but getting all these new filters has overloaded my brain.  I'll try your suggestions.

thanks.
Db

Edit: That perspective tiling filter is pretty neat.  Using the grid maker script and then applying perspective tiling gives some nice results.

I use Willy-Grid.8bf plugin, which is a 'Colored Grid Maker'. It works very well.
I have had this for such a long time that I can't remember where I downloaded it from!

It looks like it could be the same as

WillyColoredLines.8bf mentioned by Willy.
I couldn't access the page. I am sure Willy will put me right.

I can highly recommend this plugin.

I'll have to look when I get back on my home computer. Seems like I wrote those for someone in this group some time ago. I think at the time we were discussing created pattern weaves.
The download should work, at least it does for me.
Glad you like it.....

It depends on the error message, but as a guess I would guess you don't have the required .dll files. Look here for installation.

Hey Willy,

I too like the colorlines plugin you suggested earlier on this thread.  Even though I figured out how to modify the grid script to change the width of the lines after someone said they did, your script is a lot easier.

Thanks again!

I downloaded the dlls, restarted my PC and tried to run msChecks.8bf located in G:\My Documents\My PSP files\Scripts restricted.

I got an error message: The script could not be loaded.

It's not a script.  It's a filter.  It (the .8bf file) either goes into a plugins folder under your psp directory, or in xp you might want to put it under my documents>my psp files in a folder called plugins.  If you do the latter, you may have to go to file>preferences>file locations>plugins and add the location.

Then, when you want to use it, go to the effects menu in psp and look at the bottom.  It will probably be under something listed as "plugins 1", but it should be down there somewhere.

I'm never sure I"m right about anything (at least I don't think I'm ever sure), but I think I'm correct this time.

Db

PS: If you have PSP open when you move the .8bf file to the plugins folder, you might have to close psp and reopen it to actually see it.

Thanks Db!

I feel very stupid (in a smile sort of way). The last grid tool I downloaded was a script so I thought this one was too, even though the file format was new to me.

Look forward to trying it out.

Thanks again!
