Using PSP8:
Using Curves
Overview:
As we continue to explore various Effects in PSP to enhance and fix photographs, we find that many often are able to achieve a similar result. Some effects are easier than others to use. In this exercise we will again explore another effect, the Curves, to lighten photographs to achieve a similar result as we have in the first two activities. Though relatively an easy effect to use, there are subtle ways to add nodes and adjust values that are able to obtain interesting results.
In using this effect, like many, it is best to vary values a little at a time. However, in exploring this effect, try the extreme values. To add a node just place cursor on the curve and click. To drag a nod, highlight that node and drag. To remove a node, highlight it and drag it off the workspace.
One can work on all Channels (RGB) or on individual Channels (Red, Green, Blue). In this example we will only explore the RGB channel and work to lighten the Iris as well as alter its basic color.
Curves Effect:
In this example, I started out with the Iris and removed the background as indicated in DPE #2. Then, I usd Adjust || Brighten/Contrast || Curves.
- I added a new node in the middle of the curve.
- I then set the Channel to RGB
- Highlighting the Output node: Values; Input and Output both 0
- Highlighting the Input node: Values; Input and Ouput both 255
- Highlighting the Middle Node: Values; Input 100, Output 170
One can just highlight a node and drag it. Then one can refine the values if needed or wanted.
