Using PSP8:
Iris - #2.
2. Working with Adjust || Brightness/Contrast || Gamma Correction
In this illustrations, I took the original Iris with the Unsharpen Mask effect shown in #1 and then worked with Gamma Correction. In this illustration (#2) I kept the color channels linked. In the next illustration (#3) I unlinked them with higher values for a lighter but different color. In the illustration that follows (#4) I used lower values.
Then, I began to combine two effects to illustrate how using different effects creates even richer results. Often applying more than one effect can create very clear and presentable pictures. In illustration #5 I used curves on Illustration #4. In illustration #6 I used histogram on illustration #5.
Gamma Correction - Illustration #2
Gamma Correction works like Curves but you either link the colors so they change together or unlink them to adjust individual channels. In this example, I linked the colors. I start by using the mouse to drag the switches and then I refine the values in their respective boxes.
I set them all to a 1.5 value. I first started with the original, sharpened it using the values in the first illustration and then set the gamma values.
A positive value above 1 (1 is the defalut values for the original picture) lightens the picture while values below 1 darkens it.
