How I did it...

• PSP Version 7
• Promoted the background to a layer
• Duplicated the layer 3 more times
• Layer 1-Sharpen More
• Layer 2-Added Noise 100%, Uniform, Luminance 2, Hard light, Opacity 52%
• Layer 3-Hot Wax, Opacity 65%
• Layer 4-Rough Leather, Luminance 179, Contrast 30, Blur 9, Angle 80, Leather Color #b99b69
• Difficulties: Finding the right mix of effects that left the picture recognizeable [one of my predetermined objectives] with some pleasant changes. So using the effects browser on different layers I found four effects I liked first, then played with the values for that effect, then adjusted the opacity and even tried some of the Layer Blend Modes to see if there was anything I liked different. A few of them I changed but forgot to note it. Probably the toughest part is keeping track during the creative process.
• Did not use Any tutorials or other material from within or outside the PSPUG.
• It took me 45 minutes.
