Making Candles in PSP |
| |
| In this tutorial, we'll be using one of the new 3D tubes that comes with PSP 7 to create a realistic candle. Also we'll be using the "Deformation Tool" to help shape the tube. And finally we will make a tube out of our new candle. (This tutorial can also be done in PSP 6.) |
| |
Before you start download this ZIP file, which contains the "Rope" and "Fire" tubes needed to complete the tutorial in case your PSP version didn't include them. |
| |
Create a new image:
Width = 300 pixels
Height = 400 pixels
Resolution = 72 pixels
Background color = Transparent
Image type = 16.7 Million Colors (24 Bit) |
| |
Okay, let's make a candle:
Click on the Tubes tool and in the Tool Options palette select the "3D Orange" tube. |
| |
Create a new layer and name it "candle". |
| |
Put your cursor at location 50, 150 (refer to the Status Bar) and then left-click once with the tube tool. You should have an orange ball like the one pictured on the left. |
| |
Now put your cursor at 200, 150 and while holding down the Shift key, left-click again with your Tube tool to produce a "Hotdog". I bet you getting hungry now, huh? :-)
Go to Image || Rotate and rotate your hotdog 90 degrees to the left. |
| |
With the Mover Tool, move your hotdog near the bottom. |
| |

Click on the Deformation Tool.
Now click on the right-centered node and, while holding down the left mouse button, drag your hotdog out to produce your candle. Then just click outside the deformation box to set the deformation.
There's your candle, isn't it pretty. It's not a hotdog any more, so don't eat it. Okay, let's add the wick and flame to finished it off. |
| |
Create a new layer and name it "wick". |
| |
Click on the Tubes tool and in the Tool Options palette select the "Rope" tube scaled at 50%. |
| |
With the cursor at the top of your candle, left-click with the tube tool and while holding down the mouse button draw a wick. |
| |
Create a new layer and name it "flame". |
| |
Click on the "Tubes" tool and in the Tool Options box select the "Fire" tube scaled at 50%. |
| |
With the cursor at the top of your wick, left-click with the Tube tool and create a flame. There are 9 different flames in the Fire tube, so click Undo until you find one you like. Use the Mover tool if needed to position your flame in place. |
| |
Save your image as a ".psp" file for future use. On the candle layer you can go to Colors || Colorize and make different colored candles. |
| |
The final step is making a tube of your candle. If you want different colors, do it now.
Now merge all layers visible with a transparent background. Make a rectangle selection around your candle and then go to Image || Crop to Selection. Last go to File || Export || Picture Tube. Use the default settings and give your candle a filename. |
