Easy Buttons

Square Buttons
Circle Buttons
This tutorial will show you how to create easy buttons – without a filter or plug-in!

Square Buttons

Open a new image, 100 x 100 pixels, background = transparent.

Select your Floodfill tool and use the following settings:
Blend mode = Multiply
Match mode = None
Tolerance = n/a
Opacity = 100

Choose two different colors for your fore- and background colors. For this example I took foreground = white and background = black.

Set your foreground style to Gradient (click on the arrow in your foreground style box and choose the second icon from the left) and your foreground texture to None (click on the arrow in your foreground texture box and choose the icon on the right). Then click into your foreground style box to open the Gradiant dialog box:
Gradient = Foreground-Background
Invert Gradient = unchecked
Horizontal/Vertical = 50
Repeats = 0
Style = Rectangular Gradient (2nd icon from top)

Click into your image to fill it with the gradient.

Now go to Colors || Brightness/Contrast and adjust settings to:
Brightness = 0
Contrast = 85

– And you have a simple 3D button!

To crop it to size, select your Magic Wand tool:
Match mode = RGB Value
Tolerance = 0
Feather = 0

Click into the black area around your button, then go to Selections || Invert so that only your button is selected.

Go to Image || Crop to Selection.

And here is your completed square button.
