Quick Tapestry

We will use the layer feature of Paint Shop Pro to create a quick tapestry.
|
|
|
|
You can either use a picture of your own to turn it into a nice tapestry, or you can download this zip file. (It's from a tube of PSP 6, drop shadow removed.)
|

 |
Open a new image:
– Width = 5
– Height = 5
– Background = white
– Image type = 16.7 Million Colors
|
|
 |
Click on the Zoom tool in your tool palette and then into your image several times so you can work with it (I used 16:1).

Click on the Floodfill tool in your tool palette:
PSP 5:
– Fill Style = Linear Gradient
– Match Mode = RGB Value
– Tolerance = 0
– Opacity = 100
– Sample merged = unchecked |
PSP 6:
– Fill style = Linear Gradient
– Blend mode = Normal
– Paper texture = None
– Match Mode = RGB Value
– Tolerance = 0
– Opacity = 100
– Sample merged = unchecked |
Click on the Options button:
– Blend Mode = Normal
– Direction = 135 degrees |
Click on tab 2:
– Gradient = Foreground-Background
– Angle = 135
– Repeats = 0 |

Make white your foreground and a medium grey (Red/Green/Blue = all 128) your background colour and click into the image to floodfill it. Save it as "tapestry_basic.psp"; don't close it.

Open rose.psp from your download, or another picture of your choice. It shouldn't have a shadow because that would mean semi-transparent pixels – you can't make "semi-transparent stitches"!
We must now "pixelize" this image to get little squares that represent the single tapestry stitches. These squares have to be the same size as our tapestry_basic tile.

Go to Image || Resize:
– Percentage of Original = selected: 20
– Resize type = Pixel
– Resize all layers = checked
– Maintain aspect ratio = checked
Go again to Image || Resize and change "Percentage of original" to 500. Leave all the other settings as they are and click OK.

Go to Image || Canvas Size:
– New width/New height = both 200
– Center image horizontally/vertically = both checked
|

Click on the "New Layer" icon in your layer palette to create a new layer, and drag it beneath the rose layer (Layer1) in your layer palette.

Click on the Floodfill tool and change the Fill Style to "Pattern".

Floodfill your new layer behind the rose.

Zoom in a bit so that you can clearly see the 5x5 pixel filling.
|
|

Click on the Mover tool in your tool palette.
|
|
 |
Now drag the rose so that the rose pixels meet the background pixels properly. Zoom out again.
|

 |
Click on the Magic Wand tool in your tool palette and then somewhere into the empty space around the rose (your rose layer should still be selected from moving it before).

Click on the Floodfill tool and change the Fill Style to Solid Color. Change your foreground colour to a very light yellow (Red = 254, Green = 254, Blue = 232) and click into the selection to floodfill it with this colour. Deselect with Ctrl+D (Selections || Select None).

In your layer palette, choose "Multiply" as the blend mode for the rose layer.
|

 |
And there you are: a nice tapestry, in no time at all! Just frame it and hang it on your wall :-))
