You must have a registered version of Alienskin's
Eye Candy filters installed for this tutorial. Also make sure you always keep the marching ants
around your text :)
Let's start by opening a new image 200 x 100, 16 million colors, background white.
Click on the text tool. Now go ahead and type in your words. Use white for your text
color. Make sure that you use a nice fat font for the best look. Also make sure that
you have both the floating and anti-alias checked in both versions 5 and 6.
Your image should look like this. With the marching ants around your text.
The first thing we are going to do is apply a cutout effect. So go to
image, plugins, eye candy, cutout.
The settings we are going to use are:
Direction: "315"
Distance Pixels: "9"
Blur: "5"
Opacity: 80%
Shadow color: Black
After you clicked ok your image will look like this one here at the left.
Make to keep the marching ants!!
Now to give the chrome that shiny look we need to apply the glass filter as
well. Go to image, plugins, eye candy, glass.
The settings we are going to use on the left side of the filter are:
Bevel Width (pixels): "400"
Bevel Shape: Flat
Flaw Spacing (pixels): "999"
Flaw Thickness: "0"
Opacity (%): "0"
Refraction: "100"
Shadow color: Dark Gray
The settings we are going to use on the right side of the filter are:
Hilight Brightness: "100"
Hilight Sharpness: "0"
Direction (°): "129"
Inclination (°): "45"
Your image now has a shiny surface. See the picture on the left?
Now we are going to add a drop shadow to our text. Go to image, plugins,
eye candy, dropshadow.
The settings we are going to use are:
Direction(°): "315"
Distance Pixels: "3"
Blur: "9"
Shadow color: Black
Congratulations!!! You have just made "Chrome Text"!! Just experiment with
different sizes and fonts to get the look you want for your text.
