Roger's Woodgrain Tutorial

New image 200 X 200.
Black Background with 16.7 million colors

Click on the TEXT TOOL
Type some text. I used the font Harrington.
Leave your text selected.
Selections>Save to Alpha Channel.
You can name your selection or just click on OK.
Deselect the text.
Effects > Blur > Blur
Effects > Edge > Dilate - Do this 3 times
Selections>Load from alpha channel.
Select your saved image and click OK.

Colors > Adjust > Brightness/Contrast
Brightness = 20
Contrast = -10
Deselect your text.
Selections > Select All
Change the Background color to black.
Selections>Modify>Transparent Color
Transparent Color = Black
Tolerance = 10

Effects>Cutout
Fill Interior with color = Unchecked
Shadow Color = Black
Opacity = 100
Blur = 10
Vertical = 7
Horizontal = -7

Make your Foreground color white.
Artistic Effects>Hot Wax Coating
Colors > Adjust > Brightness/Contrast
Brightness = 20
Contrast = 10

Colors > Colorize
Hue = 30
Saturation = 240

Deselect Text.

Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen More

Click on the Background color and select white.
Click on Foreground color and enter
Red = 168
Green = 92
Blue = 30
Open a NEW image.
Size 200 X 200
White Background, 16.7 million colors
Select the Paint Brush.
Use these settings in the Tool Options box:
Shape = Square
Size = 75
Hardness = 100
Opacity = 100
Step = 25
Density = 100
Change your Foreground Texture to Woodgrain.
Brush the image using 3 strokes.
Do NOT over do it.
Effects > Artistic Effects > Hot Wax Coating
Switch to your original image.
Selection Tool
Selection type = Rectangle
Feather = 0
Draw a selection around your type.
Edit > Copy
Switch back to your woodgrain image.
Make Background color Black
Edit > Paste > As Transparent Selection
Center your text.
Deselect your text.


Using your Selection Tool set to:
Rectangle
Feather = 0
Draw a rectangle around your text.
Effects > Plug-In Filters > Eye Candy > Inner Bevel
Use these settings:
Bevel Width = 20
Bevel Shape = Rounded
Smoothness = 5
Shadow Depth = 50
Highlight Brightness = 80
Highlight Sharpness = 40
Direction = 135
Inclination = 45
Selections > Invert
Change your foreground color to a color of your choice.
I used (231, 181, 90)
Blend Mode = Normal
Match Node = RGB Value
Opacity = 100
Flood fill with your color.
